This range hood was to replace a fifty year old 42" range hood. I located that no nearby sources would stock a 42" range hood. A number of told me that no one in fact created that size any much more. I discovered on-line that nearly all producers created that size. I my search I found that NuTone and Broan had just what I was searching for. (The old 1 was a NuTone.) It would have been good to know that for the installation direct by way of the wall to the outside that an adaptor would be necessary to connect towards the outdoor damper. Luckily the old unit did have the adapter and also the new hood had a series of holes so that I could adjust the position considering that the original builder of the home did not center the hole by means of the wall. Otherwise the installation manual is extremely complete and understandable. I believe that the models coming on the market that can replace the Allure models will have far more efficient lights for example LED or Compact Fourescent lamps. This was an extremely great obtain. We had no thought how this "huge thing" would look hanging within the middle of our kitchen, but there was no other place where the stove would perform and there was no way we would have a stove with out a hood. Even though I ordered it elsewhere (a kitchen fan specialty website) the delivery and shipping was as efficient as any I have ever received from AMAZON along with the item is lovely, but falls 1 star brief as a result of the effort involved in installation, as even the pros I hired to do it took a couple of days to obtain it in location. Now I will say it is PERFECTLY centered and operates beautifully. Since I have NO experience with other hoods, I can not say this was unusually extended or not. The end result is magnificent and I'm so glad that in a project which price as a lot as a kitchen renovation, we did not skimp or cut corners on something as crucial and obvious as the hood unit. This range hood is great looking and draws nicely. It is as quiet as advertised when operating on the lowest setting, but is fairly loud when running full blast. The lowest speed doesn't open the back draft flap on the external ducted vent on the outside wall, but the higher ones do. Preparation for installation needs a fair quantity of assembly of the internal parts, one of which is a piece of plastic to block the exhaust towards the room when an external duct and vent are employed. (It may be employed without external venting, using the air just going by means of the filter and back in to the room.) Either this piece is not tight sufficient, or there are other air leaks, simply because some air is vented towards the room anyway. I program to disassemble the unit and tape up as a lot of internal leak sources as I can locate, such as the vent to the room in hopes of reducing this leakage. (Read More...)
